On February 14th we will be having our Valentine’s Celebration. Although we don’t have many celebrations in the classroom, one that encourages expressions of love and kindness is extra important to us as second graders! We will be keeping it simple with a card exchange and a time of encouraging one another.
2nd Grade Insect Museum Project
As a culmination of the unit, “Cycles of Nature and Insects”, we will be creating an Insect Museum for families and school mates to visit. Each student is being asked to make a 3D model of an insect as an at home project. Please help your child to think of an insect that would interest them, and then let me know as soon as possible so that we are sure to have a wide variety of insects represented.
Once your child has an approved insect, you may help them with their research (bugfacts.net is a great place to start). However, when it comes to their 3D model, please allow your child to do as much work on their own as possible. I don’t want this to be stressful on you! Remember, they will have over two weeks to complete this project. The will also need to complete (in their best handwriting) a research organizer.
These creations will be displayed and available for "public" viewing in the afternoon of an appointed date at the end of our unit.

Your role as parent/homework helper...
To enhance our Greek Festival experience, we would like for each student to create their own shield to carry in the opening ceremonies. This can be a family project, using whatever materials you see fit (cardboard probably works best). Here are the specific requirements:
Other than that, have fun and be creative!!
